Why Does My Dog Lick Me So Much?

You might be wondering why does my dog lick me so much. You are probably getting sick of all the licking and biting but you can easily stop this behavior by changing your dog's way of thinking. Although many dog owners are not aware of it, what they do to their dogs may be causing all the trouble and it could be something as simple as changing their mindsets.

Why Does My Dog Lick Me So Much

For some dog owners, it gets a little too much; for some, it is simply showing affection; however, the best thing to stop this behavior is to train them an alternate positive behavior response. But if it does not bother you, then licking in order to show you they are fond of you is actually a way your dog releases endorphins which help calm them down when they are feeling anxious or stressed.

Endorphins are natural defense system produced in our body and are very necessary if we are going to feel relaxed and at ease. This is how we get relief from stress, and your dog is also experiencing similar feelings so your dog would do anything to escape such stressful situation.

It is not easy to convince a dog to quit licking you; there are many times when they will just keep licking because they are just trying to find comfort and they are not willing to learn anything new. So you have to find a way of reinforcing the positive behavior by teaching them a new response in order to prevent licking and biting.

This is one of the best ways to stop your dog from lapping you up, and it is not as hard as you might think. You should take them to the park where there are some trees or bushes that provide shade. In order to discourage them from licking you up, go out in the park and have them stay in the shade; the moment you let them come out into the open, reward them with a treat or praise for staying in the shade.

If you cannot afford to take your dog out, you can buy a spray that contains citronella to put on the areas where your dog likes to lick you. The citronella contains enough chemical to repel the dogs from licking you and even discourage them from going to other areas in the house.
